Gather 'Round Dinner game!

by Amy Spears
This was a fun game my mom gave the kids this Christmas. It's called Gather 'Round Dinner Game.  By pressing the center button a light lands on the question everyone has to answer. Here are some examples: Name two things you are good at. Describe your perfect day.  What did you eat for dinner two nights ago? Eat some veggies and flex your muscles.  Our kids have already enjoyed this!  For more information, here is the website: ftfgames.com

It Started with a Baby

by Amy Spears
Christmas.  I have loved this time of year since my earliest memory.  As I have grown up the meaning of Christmas has changed more and more.  I would enjoy living in the season of Christmas all year.  I am not talking about the decorations or the music (although those are wonderful and seem to be magicial).  What I am expressing is a desire to live in the Truth or the attitude of what this season represents to the world.  God-the Son, made manifest into human form, humbling himself into a baby, for the singular purpose...

Where's Your Spot?

by Amy Spears
This is my spot. It's where I'm actually sitting right now.  Most mornings my alarm goes off on my phone, I shuffle into the kitchen where the coffee pot has made the morning's warmth, and I take my cup with me to this very place in our living room.  This is the spot where many things have taken place for me.  I have surrendered things that were dear, written raw and real feelings out, received hope for an issue, peace for a fear, or grace for my day. Luke 9:23 says,"And he said to all, 'If anyone would come after me, let...

A Mother Through the Years

by Amy Spears
Last night we got home from our Thanksgiving holiday.  We traveled to Dallas to visit Matt's family.  But on Friday my family met up with the rest of my sisters, their hubs, kids, and mom.  This was a surprise weekend for our mom! We told her that she would be going somewhere the day after Thanksgiving for her birthday and she didn't need to ask any questions.  "Just pack cute clothes" was the only directive we gave her.  But this wasn't just any birthday.  This was my mom's 60th birthday and all of the adult kids wanted...

Thankful Show and Tell

by Amy Spears
Last Wednesday morning at Life Group we had a Thankful Show and Tell.  It was so fun.  We really learned a lot about each other in the few minutes someone shared about their item.  There was only one rule: Don't bring a family picture and say that you're thankful for your family.  That's just assumed. The things I took were my Mimi's old stovetop percolator, a painting my Paw-Paw did of a butterfly, and the pearl ring my mom bought me for my college graduation.  I am thankful for my heritage.  The generations that...

Thankful for More

by Amy Spears
This is a picture of most of the team with most of our Titus 2 ladies.(You know how schedules can be).  We wanted to tell them thank you for all they do, by hosting them to a lunch.  The wisdom all of the Titus 2 ladies have poured into a younger heart in the last year is valuable.  I am grateful for the energy they put into weaving themselves as a part of our lives...even your life as a reader.I'm thankful for those who have seen more days than me.  Their hands have held children's hands more times.  They have made more...

Give Fall a Little Glam

by Amy Spears
Last week Matt and I had some folks over for an early Thanksgiving dinner-potluck style.  I enjoy having people in our home.  Having special details from the heart when I open my home is important to me because it's my desire that people enter and relax, enjoy conversation, and receive comfort from our family's place of refuge. So, I started planning about a week in advance for this dinner.  It really does help the stress level :).  I googled "fall table decorations" and landed on Martha Stewart's website.  What I am going...

A Girl's Diary

by Amy Spears
I'm 31. I still have a diary. Well...a journal.  Isn't that the grown-up word for it?  I see Hannah confiding herself in her diary.  She draws special pictures, writes her inner thoughts.  I love this.  I remember as a child the first key I ever had was shaped like Hannah's diary key, honestly 24 years later the diary keys are the same! This key held a lot for me.  Responsibility, privacy- not to be confused with secrecy, and acceptance.  Everything I wrote in those pages was received.I am no different today.  This...

Vegetable Garden Soup

by Amy Spears
This is the beginning of my favorite time of the year.  For the "Soup Week" on the blog I wanted to share this dish.  This recipe for vegetable soup is very simple.  It's basically a little chopping and a whole lot of dumping in a pot to heat through.  I got it from my favorite cookbook Stop and Smell the Rosemary.  It would make an excellent Christmas gift for anyone, by the way.  Ingredients1 1/2 cups of water                              ...

Mom tip of the Week

I just recently caught up with the times by getting an Iphone. Yes call me old fashioned but I just didn't want something to tie me down. Well it's proven me wrong by actually helping me as long as I don't spend too much time on the social media and ignore my family. Still finding that balance! I recently made the New Year's Resolution to read my Bible all the way through. Well with a baby in one hand for most of the day, I only have one hand to read. And as many people know, it takes two hands to read a book, at least for me it does. So my lovely Iphone came to mind. I downloaded the YouVersion app. It has the Bible, reading plans, a place to take notes, and it will even read to you. The cool part, I can use one hand to read and one hand to hold my baby. ~Misty MaGouirk
