Ginger Boys

Dec 19th, 2011 // Amy Spears

Every year our family has a favorite cookie. Gingerbread boys-but we call them Gingerboys.  Here is the recipe:

1 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup shortening
1  1/2 cup molasses
2/3 cup cold water
7 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
2teaspoons  ground ginger
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon cloves
1 teaspoon allspice
1/2 teaspoon salt

Mix together on medium speed the sugar, shortening, molasses, and water. Add the remaining ingredients, mixing well. Cover and refrigerate  cookie dough for at least two hours. Preheat oven to 350° and bake 8 minutes for smaller boys and 10 minutes for bigger sized cookies.

Enjoy and if you would like, share your traditional sweet with us!

Mom tip of the Week

I just recently caught up with the times by getting an Iphone. Yes call me old fashioned but I just didn't want something to tie me down. Well it's proven me wrong by actually helping me as long as I don't spend too much time on the social media and ignore my family. Still finding that balance! I recently made the New Year's Resolution to read my Bible all the way through. Well with a baby in one hand for most of the day, I only have one hand to read. And as many people know, it takes two hands to read a book, at least for me it does. So my lovely Iphone came to mind. I downloaded the YouVersion app. It has the Bible, reading plans, a place to take notes, and it will even read to you. The cool part, I can use one hand to read and one hand to hold my baby. ~Misty MaGouirk
