Thankfulness Fortune Rolls
Wanna make your Thanksgiving meal a little more fun? Try these rolls! I made my own crescent rolls and put little notes in them. The notes had everyone's name on them and said, "I am thankful for ______ because..." When you open your roll, find the fortune and tell that person why you are thankful for them. I made a list, printed it, and just wrapped them up when I formed the crescent. You do this idea with the canned rolls, or here's a recipe I used. (Next time I do this, I will make the notes a little bigger so they are easier to find, harder to eat.) This recipe makes 3 dozen rolls.
Homemade Crescent Rolls
2 pkgs yeast
1/4 cup warm water
1 cup butter
1 cup milk
3 eggs
4 cups flour
1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp salt
Dissolve 2 packages of yeast in warm water and leave for 5 minutes. Melt 1 cup butter in 1 cup milk over low heat., Cool. Add 3 eggs to yeast mixture and beat with a fork. Add cooled butter and milk mixture. Gradually add 4 cups flour, 1/2 cup sugar, and 1 tsp salt. Mixture will be sticky. Place in a greased bowl and cover tightly. Place in the refrigerator overnight or 9-12 hours.
Punch down the dough. Divide in 3 parts. Roll out the dough like a pie crust (aim for a circle, not a United States) about 1/4 inch thick. Spread with a generous amount of butter. Cut into 12 pizza slices. Put the fortune at the big end and roll it up inside , big end to small end. Pick up the roll and place it on a greased cookie sheet. Bend the ends in to make a crescent shape. Repeat this with the other 2 parts of the dough. Brush the tops with melted butter. Bake at 375 degrees until light brown, about 10-15 minutes. O the yum, o the fun!
